If you think you have a strong newsworthy story I am always keen to hear from you.
I often need to find interviewees or case-studies for magazine articles/documentaries I am already working on (see the list below for specific stories)
I am also keen to hear from people with completely fresh stories which could work for a magazine feature, TV or radio appearence. I am particularly interested in unusual relationship stories. eg:
- Perhaps you have a non-conventional relationship set-up: Are you polyamorous? Do you have an open marriage?
- Do you live separately to your spouse? Are you living with a guilty secret (obviously you can stay anonymous!)?
- Have you experienced a particularly shocking break-up or betrayal?
- Have you overcome big challenges such as cultural or religious boundaries for love?
- Do you have a fertility story or are you an egg donor or a surrogate mother?
- Do you have an unusual health story? Or addiction?
Depending on the publication, I will usually be able to pay a fee for any interview used (this will be more if you are willing to be identified).
I’m not looking to negatively expose lifestyles or experiences. Generally if I’ve chosen a topic to write about, it’s because I’m personally interested, curious or sympathetic.
Here’s what some of my previous interviewees have to say after I’ve featured them in a story:
“I picked up a copy of The Times today and just want to say thank you so much for writing such a great article! I loved how personal it was and didn’t just read as a typical “what is asexuality?” piece.” Anonymous case-study (article on asexuality)
“I just wanted to say how much I enjoyed your article. You did such a good job. I’ve had so many lovely messages incl one from a friend whose mum has terminal cancer. She says the article gave her some strength there’ll be life after she’s gone.” Lisa Snell (article on women losing fathers).
“Absolutely LOVE the piece!!! Didnt realise we would be in the centre!! Tthanks for a wonderful glowing piece, all our friends and family are saying how great the article is and we think you did a fantastic job as well as Eva the photgrapher. We are so pleased we agreed to do this you have made us very happy!” Sabrina (article on co-parenting).
“Thanks for doing all that for me I am really so gratefull to you. About 4 television companies have emailed me already as well! One of them is in Germany!” Simon Watson (article on regular sperm donors).
“Just so you know, the show was awesome and had the best turnout yet. Everyone LOVES your article in the Times.” Suzy Miller (article on divorce mediation and the SOS divorce fair).
“I picked up a copy of Forum today and just want to say thank you so much for writing such a great article! I loved how personal it was and didn’t just read as a typical “what is asexuality?” piece. Thank you and if you ever need to speak to me again for another article I will! X” Melanie (article on asexual relationships).
“I’ve only just plucked up the courage to peek at the feature. I can’t believe how big it is! It’s absolutely incredible. I’ve had amazing emails all day. Women who’ve been raped or married without sex… and haven’t opened up like this before. You did a very good thing…. Anyway I owe you so much.” Sarah Berry, (article on women’s sexuality workshop).
“Just wanted to say I saw the article in the Metro this morning and I’m really pleased with it. I really appreciated the way you grasped and presented the concept, and got across all the points we really wanted to. It’s also the first time I’ve ever been quoted in print media and not felt horribly misrepresented. Thank you!” Maxine Green (article on polyamory)
Below is an up-to-date list on my current projects that I need people to interview for. If you think you fit the bill for any of these please contact me here.
NATIONAL NEWSPAPER SUPPLEMENT
Are you a surrogate mother or have you used a surrogate mother?
I am looking to interview a woman or couple with an experience of surrogacy. Either she has been a surrogat mother herself or has used a surrogate mother, here or abroad. It can be a positive story or a bad experience.
Ideally I need someone willing to be identified though if strong enough, it could be anonymous.
DEADLINE: August 2011
DOCUMENTARY PILOT
Unhappy about your love life? You may be able to help me with a research project for a pilot TV documentary.
I’m looking for around 20 women aged 23 – 40 to interview about dating patterns and relationship history.
You can be single or in a relationship – the more different stories we have the better! But the key is that you want to change something about your love life. You may be stuck in an unhappy relationship or you be forever single and can’t understand why. Or maybe you just keep obsessing about a guy you can’t have!
It will involve a face-to-face hour-long interview with me, so only apply if you are willing to be honest and fully open about your feelings and views. (all conversations treated in confidence)
If commissioned, we will ask some of the interviewees if they want to take part in the actual documentary. (which would be filmed in more depth at a later date). But at this stage, we will be using the interviews for research purposes only.
DEADLINE: This is ongoing. But please get in touch ASAP
